Deadend Magazine Weekend Report - 01/10/18

We spent the first weekend of 2018 doing what we do best.. Traveling & shooting a lot of photos.

The first thing we thought when we saw a picture of Bo's '60 Pontiac wagon was that it reminds us of the guys from Strongers Car Club in Japan. Our friends from Strongers seem to have really good taste and always pick the coolest cars to build. Pontiacs, Buicks, Oldsmobiles, Mercurys, and a couple Chevrolets. They choose some less common cars to build and they do some nice mild custom work and always use unique colors. The second thought was that we had to set up a photo shoot and see it in person. Well turns out Bo was not really looking for unique car to build he was just keeping it in the family. Bo's grandfather is the original owner, his family drove it out to California from New Jersey back in 1964. His mother drove it to high school then it was parked for a long time but the wagon never left the family. Bo brought it back to life with his own twist. Everything has been gone through from drivetrain to interior. Other than the color and the fact that it is a Pontiac wagon the hand made roof rack makes the wagon stand out. Bo drives all the cars he builds, you can expect to see him out cruising with the family.

After our shoot we headed to Downtown Los Angeles for the Los Angeles Cruise Night. A couple years ago the LACN folks had a farewell cruise for the 6th Street Bridge. This past weekend we met up once again at the same location (minus the bridge which has since been torn down) There was a couple hundred cars cruising in & around the area.

After the cruise we stuck around Downtown Los Angeles to shoot Rob House's super clean mild custom Chevy Fleetline. We first noticed Rob House's smooth mild custom Chevy when he debuted it at the Grand National Roadster Show in 2006. The tasteful custom work combined with the perfect wheels seem to catch a lot of people's attention. We have wanted to showcase it ever since. This past weekend we were finally able to make it happen. Over the past 11 years or so Rob has put six different sets of wheels on his ride, but out of all of them he thinks the TrueSpokes look best. We agree with him. To some people it is just a simple mild custom 50 Chevy, but the spokes make it a low rider. It reminds us of the style of car that we always in the search for. We grew up in a town full of low riders, but when we first went to Paso Robles we realized how cool custom cars can be. Rob's Fleetline reminds us of those killer rides we would always see in Paso Robles. The cars that look stock but have a lot of custom work done seem to be the coolest, especially with the right wheels. The fastback is proof that good taste is timeless, it has been around for over a decade and still looks killer every time we see it. It looks like it is fresh and still stands out.

Deadend Magazine Weekend Report - J&V's Garage Shindig

Once again we co-hosted J&V'S Garage Shindig this past weekend in Chula Vista, CA. Joe at J&V has been a staple car culture in the San Diego area for over 30 years so the locals come out to show support. As you can tell there was a lot of customs, low riders and hot rods. Thanks to everyone who stopped by the Deadend Magazine booth.

Deadend Magazine Weekend Report - Mooneyes X-Mas Party 2017

This weekend we headed back down to Southern California for what can potentially be the last Mooneyes X-Mas Party. Yep, that's right. They say it will definitely be the last one held at Irwindale Speedway. The speedway will be torn down soon. Leaving behind many years of memories. We had to make it down just in case it is the last Party all together. Many people had the same idea. Irwindale Speedway was packed! We didn't get to see all the cars. We did manage to see many of our friends. It was good while it lasted. We'll see you at the next one if there is one.

First car we saw in the general admission parking lot. Gave us a good preview of what we would see all day.

Deadend Magazine Weekend Report - Mooneyes Hot Rod Custom Show

This past weekend we made our way back to Yokohama Japan for the Mooneyes' Hot Rod Custom Show. You've probably heard from many people that this is THE show to go to. You heard right. This show is hard to put into words. If you've never gone you need to do yourself a favor and get yourself to Yokohama the first weekend of December one year. Arigato to everyone who stopped by the booth!

Congrats to our good friend Coby for having his Econoline 'Van Go' as a special guest.

Deadend Magazine Weekend Report - 10/26/17

It's been a busy week at the Deadend Magazine headquarters. The week followed an equally busy weekend. We headed to Southern California for a few shoots and a couple events.
Our first stop was National City to shoot James Thomson's latest purchase, a custom painted 1964 Chevy wagon. The wagon was built, painted (and owned) by Manuel Cisneros before James got his hands on it.

We've been trying to shoot Phillip Gabriel's Lincoln for a few months and glad we were finally able to. These days it's getting harder to build a mild custom and really stand out. We believe Phillip achieved this with his Lincoln and all it took was a killer color, the right stance and wheels.
