Throwback - Nitro Nationals 2005

Ten years ago we (Deadend Magazine) were still covering traditional American car events religiously. We would jump in my brothers Honda Civic or my Toyota Pick-Up (both had great gas mileage and I miss my Toyota a little) and drive down to Southern California almost as often as we do now.
We'd frequent the drag races in Pomona & Famoso. Our good friend Robert McDonald's dad Pat would race his Nova at many events (C/Gas in 2005) so we'd tag along for the weekend and hang out with his team in the pits. It was really fun. We'd get there early, watch them prepare the car, eat bar-b-que with them, roam around the pits snapping pictures and had someone to root for. Ever since Pat retired from drag racing going to the races hasn't been the same (Pat recently picked up another Nova that he is working, not to race though). The drag races are still fun, walking around the pits is still my favorite part... But when we had a team to hang out with, and root for it was really something. I do miss it. Maybe we need to hit the drags more often...
Here are a few shots from one of our many trips to the drags. The 2005 Nitro Nationals.
