Deadend Magazine Feature - Jeff Cecilio's 1953 Chevy

In our opinion style is the most important thing when building a custom car. The profile, stance, paint, wheel and tire combo, and small details all make a car look good if they all work well together. This 53 chevy owned by our friend Jeff was styled in part by the team at Starlite Rod and Custom in Southern California. Everything from the great color choices to the floating grill and heavy chop all give the car a unique look. A lot of 53/54 Chevys have been customized in the past but this one sure does stand out.

Video: Deadend Magazine Spotlight | Ruben Cardona's 1937 Lincoln Zephyr

The 1937 Lincoln Zephyr has become a staple and sought after car in the traditional American car community. It is bucket list car for many. The sleek and "deco" curves and lines of the Zephyr make for a great "stock custom."

Deadend Magazine Weekend Report - 03/20/18

We spent our weekend in Southern California once again. We started out the weekend shooting Lee Pratt's '55 Custom Nomad. Lee first built this Nomad in the late 1960's and he was lucky enough to get it back and resurrected it back to it's glory a couple years ago. If you're not familiar with Lee Pratt there is one thing you should know Mr. Pratt has built some of the classiest customs to cruise the streets of many states through out many decades. Here are a few photos of a good example.

Deadend Magazine Weekend Report - 01/22/18

This weekend we shot Adam Gonzalez' fresh 65 Buick Riviera. Adam is a local homie who has been building low riders since he was in high school. He owns a candy painted 1966 Impala, a laid out 1963 Chevy wagon and is also building a convertible 1959 Chevy Impala. He decided to go the more traditional custom route with his Riviera. He painted it candy and had Eddie Padilla do patterns on the roof, then did the air ride and put Supremes with wide white walls. We were lucky enough to be the first to shoot this beautiful ride. We hope to see it all the local car events or just cruising the streets.

Deadend Magazine Weekend Report - 01/10/18

We spent the first weekend of 2018 doing what we do best.. Traveling & shooting a lot of photos.

The first thing we thought when we saw a picture of Bo's '60 Pontiac wagon was that it reminds us of the guys from Strongers Car Club in Japan. Our friends from Strongers seem to have really good taste and always pick the coolest cars to build. Pontiacs, Buicks, Oldsmobiles, Mercurys, and a couple Chevrolets. They choose some less common cars to build and they do some nice mild custom work and always use unique colors. The second thought was that we had to set up a photo shoot and see it in person. Well turns out Bo was not really looking for unique car to build he was just keeping it in the family. Bo's grandfather is the original owner, his family drove it out to California from New Jersey back in 1964. His mother drove it to high school then it was parked for a long time but the wagon never left the family. Bo brought it back to life with his own twist. Everything has been gone through from drivetrain to interior. Other than the color and the fact that it is a Pontiac wagon the hand made roof rack makes the wagon stand out. Bo drives all the cars he builds, you can expect to see him out cruising with the family.

After our shoot we headed to Downtown Los Angeles for the Los Angeles Cruise Night. A couple years ago the LACN folks had a farewell cruise for the 6th Street Bridge. This past weekend we met up once again at the same location (minus the bridge which has since been torn down) There was a couple hundred cars cruising in & around the area.

After the cruise we stuck around Downtown Los Angeles to shoot Rob House's super clean mild custom Chevy Fleetline. We first noticed Rob House's smooth mild custom Chevy when he debuted it at the Grand National Roadster Show in 2006. The tasteful custom work combined with the perfect wheels seem to catch a lot of people's attention. We have wanted to showcase it ever since. This past weekend we were finally able to make it happen. Over the past 11 years or so Rob has put six different sets of wheels on his ride, but out of all of them he thinks the TrueSpokes look best. We agree with him. To some people it is just a simple mild custom 50 Chevy, but the spokes make it a low rider. It reminds us of the style of car that we always in the search for. We grew up in a town full of low riders, but when we first went to Paso Robles we realized how cool custom cars can be. Rob's Fleetline reminds us of those killer rides we would always see in Paso Robles. The cars that look stock but have a lot of custom work done seem to be the coolest, especially with the right wheels. The fastback is proof that good taste is timeless, it has been around for over a decade and still looks killer every time we see it. It looks like it is fresh and still stands out.

Deadend Magazine Weekend Report - 07/18/17

Another busy weekend in the books. This past Friday we headed to Southern California, our first stop was Santa Clarita, CA to shoot a mild custom Ford Thunderbird recently built by the fellas at Starlite Rod & Kustom. As you can see there are many details on this Bird. Thanks to Edgar & Frank for taking a time of their busy day, we really appreciate it boys.

Sunday morning we met up with Chuck Schauwecker to shoot his custom 1930 Ford "RodRiguez" built by Junichi Shimodaira of Paradise Road in central Japan. As you can tell Junichi put a lot of time & effort on this radical custom Ford. You can look at the car from every angle and still miss details. Junichi left no area of the car untouched. Chuck has owned and cared for "RodRiguez" for over a decade.

Mild Customs in Texas

After the Lone Star Round Up we like to shoot a few cars. This year was no different.

We already knew we wanted to shoot "Flat Top" Bob & Linda Owens' (from Owens Salvage) recently refreshed 1961 Buick but had no idea that Flat Top Bob would be rolling with Ryno's most recent build, a smooth 1962 Cadillac. We think the 2 compliment each other quite well, especially with the recent smooth Mike Howell paint jobs.

Deadend Magazine Weekend Report - Grand National Roadster Show 2017

First and foremost we'd like to thank everyone who stopped by the Deadend Magazine booth this past weekend at the Grand National Roadster Show in Pomona, CA. We really enjoyed seeing old friends and making new ones. Holding down the booth and walking around capturing photos takes a toll on us but it is definitely worth it!

As you can see from our (short) coverage there was a lot to see and admire at the "Grand Daddy Of Them All."

We hit a couple cruise nights while we were down in Southern California which we will post soon.
